MILITARY: Two Marines commit suicide in January, rate slows

Two active-duty Marines killed themselves in January, the service's Suicide Prevention Program reported Monday.

Despite those incidents, the rate of Marine Corps suicides continues to slow after reaching a peak in 2009.

A record 52 suicides were recorded that year. Last year, the number fell to 37, including five recorded "in theater," the military's reference to Iraq and Afghanistan.
